MCV Legislative Hotlist: April 14, 2009

Montana's Renewable

Energy Standard at Risk

Conservationists-

Today, the Montana House of Representatives voted to approve the terrible bill, Senate Bill 257, which eradicates the Renewable Energy Standard.  62 legislators voted for SB 257, while 38 opposed the bill.  (50 "no" votes kills the bill.)

There's still time to defeat this bill.  If you believe that Montana should invest in new, clean, renewable sources of energy like wind, biomass and solar power, call you Representative today and urge them to oppose SB 257 tomorrow on 3rd reading.

The following House Democrats supported the bill.  If your legislator is on this list, please call them today or tomorrow morning during business hours and respectfully ask them to change their vote and oppose SB 257:

House Democrats that voted "yes" (against the conservation community) on SB 257:

  1. Rep. Shannon Augare (Browning)

  2. Rep. Tony Belcourt (Box Elder)

  3. Rep. Frosty Calf Boss Ribs (Heart Butte)

  4. Rep. Margie Campbell (Poplar)

A special thank you to Speaker Bergren, Rep. Villa and Rep. Roundstone, as well as the other 35 Democrats that voted no) for opposing the bill in the face of a powerful industry lobby.

Thank you for your commitment to Montana's rivers, open spaces, and public health in this difficult session.  We're almost done, but please keep up the pressure!  Our legislators must hear from us.
