One more chance to call your legislator to protect renewable energy- No on SB 403, yes to the Governor's veto.

Conservationists-

Thank you to the many folks who contacting the Governor and their legislators to urge a veto on the bogus SB 257, a bill that would have destroyed Montana's renewable energy economy.

Last Friday, Governor Schweitzer vetoed SB 257, a huge victory.  Our conservation and environmental group allies tell us the fight to protect the Renewable Energy Standard is still not over though.

Thankfully, Governor Schweitzer vetoed another bill, SB 403 (Sen. Gebhart, R-Roundup), which also would erode the Renewable Energy Standard, by allowing utilities to take credit for purchasing renewable energy without purchasing the renewable energy credits (RECs).  This gets a little complicated, but essentially, the RECs are the market mechanism to valuate renewable energy production in Montana.  This bill would hurt the actual producers of the energy, thus decreasing incentives for new clean energy development.

Unfortunately, there is a movement within the Legislature to override this veto.

You can help.

Please contact your legislator, and ask them to vote to uphold the Governor's veto of SB 403.
