April Redistricting Hearings
The Districting and Apportionment Commission will be holding two more public hearings and an executive session meeting in the month of April. The purpose of the hearings is to gather public testimony on what criteria the Commission should use when drawing the new legislative district maps. The selected criteria will determine how the districts are drawn.
The attached memo tells how you can help and some suggestions on what criteria are needed to create a fair plan for all Montanans.
Some Republican legislators and others want to establish criteria that would severely restrict the Commission's flexibility to draw legislative districts reflecting the diversity of Montana's different communities of interests. Their criteria proposals would most likely decrease the number of competitive districts. We need to make sure our voices are heard.
What You Can Do to Help: It's important the Commission hears from you on this issue sometime before April 27th.
You can send comments to the Districting and Apportionment Commission, Capitol Station, Helena 59620 or email comments to either rweiss@mt.gov, patsmith@mt.gov,or joelamson@mt.gov
THANKS!
