Big Rigs Long Slog Slowed- Update

Big Rigs along our rivers

Ever wonder what becomes of the postcard you return or the email you forward to a state agency?

Wonder no more.  It looks like conservation groups like the Natural Resources Defense Council and Clark Fork Coalition collectively mobilized thousands to submit comments to the Montana Department of Transportation, and are forcing the agency to take a hard look at the Big Rigs transportation proposal.  Thanks DNRC and Clark Fork Coalition!

Meanwhile, and Idaho judge revoked permits for the massive oil equipment shipments to travel down highway 12.  Let's hope Montana follows suit.

Following the push to develop tar sands in Alberta and truck the massive equipment through Montana and Idaho?

Well, lots of conservationists are, including the Clark Fork Coalition and Montana Environmental Information Center.  Folks are concerned about potentially industrializing the river corridors of the Big Blackfoot and Lochsa Rivers.

Looks like the Big Rig shipments hit a bump in the road yesterday, when an Idaho judge halted shipments along the Lochsa River.

Montanans are waiting to hear from our Department of Transportation, who has the final say on whether or not the football field-sized monster trucks are appropriate along the Big Blackfoot.

Stay tuned for more infomation.
