MCV and MCVEF Seek Missoula Intern for the 2011 Fall Semester

Montana Conservation Voters is the political arm of Montana’s conservation and environmental community, working to elect pro-conservation candidates to the legislature, local and statewide office. MCV engages environmentalists and conservationists in the democratic process to protect clean air and water, public health and Montana’s hunting and fishing resources. MCV organizes support for pro-conservation policy priorities, educates the public, and holds officials accountable for their votes on the environment. MCV has staff and offices in Missoula and Billings.
Location, Supervision,Time Commitment: An internship is available from September 19th - early December, 2011 and will be based in MCV’s office, located at 101 E. Broadway Ste 406, Missoula, MT 59802. The internship is for 15 – 25 hours per week, depending on available credit hours. Interns work in a supportive, professional environment. Internship hours are flexible but regular. Desk, computer, internet, office supplies and materials are provided.
Compensation: Interns may earn credit for participation in the program. Approved out of pocket expenses incurred during the internship are reimbursed, though none or few are expected.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Montana Conservation Voters in helping elevate the importance of the environment to voters in the 2011 city elections: help with Letters to the Editor in local newspapers, door to door canvassing, phone calls, volunteer management, data entry, and general campaign support;
- Community outreach, grassroots organizing, and membership development through one on one visits with key community leaders, phone calls to MCV members, email and social media. Specific events involving outreach include:
· Outreach and membership development for the Missoula MCV Chapter Annual Membership meeting on September 22nd
· Outreach and membership development for our Kettlehouse pint night fundraiser on October 5th
· Outreach and organizing of monthly Conservation Roundtable meetings,
· Organizing assistance of our regular Missoula Chapter board meetings;
- Conservation and Environmental Community outreach: Contact local and statewide conservation and environmental groups, develop a calendar of events for MCV and MCVEF web sites (annual membership meetings, fundraisers, meetings, workshops), attend and table at Missoula area events.
Qualifications:
- Graduate or upper class student in Environmental Studies, Media and Communications or Political Science. Others are encouraged to apply if their studies or individual goals relate to MCV’s mission;
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal;
- Strong academic record with good or excellent grades;
- Can demonstrate how internship will enrich educational and professional goals;
- Committed to MCV’s mission to protect the environment through political action.
