Dick Barrett for HD93
Dick Barrett has never ran for office before and has recently retired from teaching environmental economics as a Professor at the University of Montana. He has been a recent member of the MCV Board of Directors in which he provided expert service and advice on energy issues. Over the last decade Dick has become increasingly concerned with attacks on conservation and environmental organizations and their supporters which characterize environmental protection as a roadblock to economic progress. As a result, his recent research has focused on the changing relationship in the Mountain West between the environment and economic well-being.
In numerous papers, newspaper columns and a book (Post Cowboy Economics), Dick and Thomas Power have argued that extractive exploitation of natural resources plays an increasingly minor role in the region's economy, and that environmental protection is an important source of well-being for the region's residents. Dick also has extensive experience with labor union negotiations and leadership positions, and has also worked extensively in local and legislative political campaigns.
Dick will face Steve Dogiakos (R) in this fall's election.
