WILD & SCENIC ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL
RETURNS TO BILLINGS SEPT. 17
The Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival is returning to Billings on Friday, Sept. 17. The festival highlights 12 short films that are beautiful in their settings but educational and challenging in their issues and message. Some of the films encourage citizens to get involved on issues important to the land, the water, and to our quality of life. Others are just plain fun. And most are a combination of both.
For the second year, Northern Plains Resource Council will host the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival in Petro Theater at MSU-Billings, from 7-10 p.m. Tickets are $10 ($8 advance). Children 10 and younger are admitted free if accompanied by an adult. The $8 advance tickets can be purchased at The Base Camp, 1730 Grand Avenue; or at the Northern Plains office, 220 S. 27th Street.
“Whether addressing local food issues, the struggle for environmental justice, energy conservation, or simply making our communities better places to live, the films will introduce the audience to forward-thinking ideas and awareness of issues important to America’s future,” said Carissa Klarich, a Northern Plains member who helped choose the films to be shown in Billings.
This year’s films have received a number of honors and include a condensed version of the Ken Burns’ documentary “The National Parks: This is America,” which tells the story of Americans from every conceivable background willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and who – in doing so – reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy.
The Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival has traveled to more than 100 locations nationwide since it started in 2004. Each of the venues is hosted by a local organization as a way to raise awareness for its campaigns and encourage the involvement of local citizens. The film festival tour is sponsored by five companies -- Patagonia, Clif Bar, Tom's of Maine, Sierra Nevada Brewery, and Osprey Packs -- that have come together to make these films available to audiences across the country. The Billings showing also is made possible by several local sponsors.
The showing at Petro Theater will also include door prizes for audience members.
Northern Plains is an agriculture and conservation group that organizes Montana citizens to protect our water quality, family farms and ranches, and our unique way of life.
